PHILADELPHIA IS HOT FOR TRIBUTES, PHILLY JOEL IS FIRE
Tribute bands have taken over live entertainment, and it’s hard to find a venue more electric, and eclectic, than 118 North in Wayne PA.
The venue is hosting a double header, featuring Philly Joel (Billy Joel tribute) for a night that promises waves of rock hits and smooth tones.
Philly Joel features world-class musicians, all the hits, and a lead singer who looks and sounds like Billy himself. Helmed by Dave Papa Giorgio, an original 90's alt rock artist, his Billy is not mimicry, but rather a natural extension of his talent and physicality.
Giorgio says, "To sing Billy Joel’s music, there are a few things that help nail the sound. You need to be able to shout a bit, like with rockers such as You May Be Right or Miami 2017. But you also need to be able to sing Bel Canto style for the ballads."
Philly Joel packs the house due to fanatical marketing efforts. Fans are left appreciative of the high energy showmanship. Most remarkable are the younger fans at shows.
"Most Billy Joel bands replicate Billy in his later years. It's still a great show, but the songs are slower, the keys lowered. I think my band's appeal to younger fans is due to the energy. It's similar to Billy in his early years when the band was hungry."
